As lame as this sounds, somebody stole my boombox a few years ago, and I still haven’t replaced it. So I figured I would search for a boombox.
Things like color, brand, and size really aren’t that important to me right now so I decided to keep it simple. So I started with the most important thing – price.
The first thing I did was google “boombox radios under $40.00” and one of the first sites to appear was “How Stuff Works.com”. This site was really helpful. Not only did this site have pictures of the various boomboxes in my budget, it allowed me to compare prices at different stores and websites all within a click of a few buttons. It also displayed the stores rating based off of the reviews of thousands of people.
The best part was that it included items that were cheaper than what I expected. Though I put 40 dollars in the search, it still showed me items that were only $19.99 with more gadgets and gismos than I imagined.
Even though I knew I probably wouldn’t find anything better, I kept searching. I went to sites like “BizRate.com,” “DinoDirect,” and a few unusual sites like “Digiblue.com” which sold a stackable yellow Lego boombox and “ioffer.com” where you name your price. Awesome!!
So after looking and looking, and almost forgetting what I was really searching for, I decided to return to “How Stuff Works.com.”
Then I took a look at several “review sites,” and decided to go with a rather plain, old-school boombox – the Supersonic SC-505 Boombox- it includes a cd player, am/fm radio, ac adapter, and remote control (which I’ll probably lose after the first week or so). And honestly, that’s all I need.
The best part?
My Supersonic SC-505 Boombox is only $19.99 plus tax and shipping and handling.
From this entire ordeal, I learned stick to your price, remember what you really want and don’t get sucked into all the glitz and glam of interesting internet cruising. Lesson learned.
